I started my Photography journey a few years before opening Kathryn Lacey Thevis Photography LLC. I dabbled with bridge cameras in high school and studied Digital art in College on my way to becoming a Registered Nurse. My favorite camera then was a Nikon, so I obviously stuck with that brand when I purchased my first DSLR, about 8 years ago. Fast forward to today, Nikon is still my favorite brand of camera body. I have used Sigma Art and Nikkor Lenses. My favorite lens is a Nikkor 85mm 1.4 that helps me achieve that dreamy look I love. I have created with cameras worth $50 all the way to $2000. I would suggest starting low, bc if you are not a fan or cannot get it right, then you are not out of much money. I dropped the link to my favorite camera and lens that I still love to use below:

One of the most #common #questions that I hear before, during, and after a #portrait #session with me is... DO YOU OFFER #DIGITAL #IMAGES? and the answer to this is #YES. I offer #digitals because we live in a digital #world and everyone wants to #share their #special images with the world. BUT, I will say that when you #purchase digital images.... IT TRUELY #MATTERS WHERE YOU #PRINT. Printing your images through other #labs can yield many, many different #variations in #colors/inks among other #quality issues. So, if you want quality, print through your #photographer's lab. This will #guarantee your #colors are as they should be. Another #issue that can arise is #damage. If your images arrive damaged or not up to par, your #photographer can contact the lab and help. #Printing from consumer labs aren't as helpful when issues like this arise. The #best thing to do when you hire a #full #service photographer (such as Kathryn Lacey Thevis Photography) is to tap into that #fullservice by creating and planning your budget before you book, and after you can choose a package that helps you have all of your needs met. After-all, these images will LAST SEVERAL #LIFETIMES so MAKE IT COUNT.

As #Mothers, we are #ALWAYS putting everyone first. Which means typically coming #LAST. Between getting the #kids fed, off to #school, boo boo fixing, #diaper changing, #house choring... #moms have very little time left over. AND thats okay! BUT our day, #Mother's Day, should be all about us. So get yourself that gift you have BEEN wanting! Hire that #photographer to capture YOUR #memories, the way YOU want them. ITS YOUR DAY! OWN IT and ENJOY! Don't let me catch you feeling bad about it either!

When you decide you want to have professional portraits taken, it can be a bit overwhelming with so many photographers having different styles and price points. One tip that I would suggest is to find someone who specializes in the type of photography you need. For instance, you don't want to book a landscape photographer for Family portraits. If you need a Newborn or Family Session, book a newborn or family photographer. Make sure you look at the photographers personal style before booking as well. You don't want to book a photographer that has a style you dislike, then try to make them change their style for you after the session. You will be disappointed. Once you have narrowed down the type and style you need, then look at pricing. Talk to your S.O. and decide on how much you are willing to spend. If these are just for Christmas cards or something simple then you may be willing to use a newer/cheaper photographer. If these will be going on your walls for years to come.... you may want to spend a little more and find someone who can deliver the wall portraits you dream of. Some Photographers even have payment plans!

Welcome Back Friends! A HUGE topic of discussion for me..... WARDROBE ! While I leave this decision solely up to my clients, I do Love when they ask me for some tips or even links to choices they may love. This is usually what I like to share with my clients to make the choice less complicated for them. First, Where will these images be going? Will they be in your living room for years to come? Bedroom? Hall? gifts for family? Wall at your office or clinic? If you are planning to hang a large Framed Print (I have Custom wholesale Frames available btw) then I would highly suggest choosing colors that jive with your decor. WHY? you may ask..... Simple. The Large images become part of your decor. If you have Navy and Yellow accents throughout your living room, you may not want to hang up something that has red and green in it. Unless you go with a Black and white image.... lol I always have a fix for you. SO, say my living room is full of ivory, sage, and brown... then I would choose those colors for my Wardrobe. Next, do you choose patterns ? solid? or a mix? I always say MIX! But where do you start? You start with the DIVA of the family. Usually Mom or Daughter lol! Mom, choose your outfit first and LOVE IT . I want you to completely fall in LOVE with your outfit! After all, you will be seeing it for years to come! If you chose a pattern, you would then choose the other family members outfits/patterns from those colors. If you choose a solid, then you would want to make sure your family's patterns have that solid in them. Now, I want you to look at the adorable family above.... Notice how NONE OF THEM MATCH , but they all COORDINATE ! This is an example of what you SHOULD DO! Another Question that I get ..... Can I mix patterns? And the answer is SOMETIMES . Not all patterns flow well together. For a family of 3-5 I want you to have 1-2 patterns within your wardrobe. One LARGE PATTERN and one COORDINATING SMALL PATTERN. Again, look at my example above, notice Dad is wearing a small check pattern in navy, this is almost like a solid color and coordinated extremely well with everyone. While Big Brother is wearing a large plaid pattern with a POP OF COLOR. These patterns can be mixed because Dad is almost a solid. Also I LOVE how Mom put baby brother in coordinating suspenders in a STRIPED pattern, breaking up his solid shirt. Lets touch on ACCESSORIES . The golden rule is LESS IS MORE. Except with Fur and Diamonds LOL. So, when you are done dressing and have checked belts, shoes, socks, jewelry, hats. I want you to only have 2-3 accessories... necklace earrings hat, Belt and earrings, Hat bracelet earrings, Bracelets and hat..... just don't over do it. AND PLEASE PLEASE WEAR THE FAMILY HEIRLOOMS ! Heirlooms make the images even more precious. Maw-Maw, can I borrow those pearls?! Lastly, I want you to dress your best! This does not mean you have to wear a dress or suit.... But it wouldn't Hurt! Wink wink. I enjoy photographing from Casual to cocktail attire (my fav.) so whatever works for you works for me! I hand picked some great AMAZON threads below that will not break the bank if you need help! And for the love of photography REMOVE WALLETS, KEYS, AND PHONES FROM YOUR POCKETS ! ..... please lol. One question that many clients ask is what's the difference between a Full Session and a Scheduled Mini Session? Full Sessions (at Kathryn Lacey Thevis Photography) come with about an hour of photographing, you can change into another outfit, you can choose your date (from the ones available), and you have more freedom to choose a theme and plan with me. Mini Sessions (at KLTP) are shorter, usually have a theme chosen already, and are on a set date with a limited number of spots. Most busy mothers of young children love booking the Mini Sessions because their children can only hang for 10-15minutes and it is a great way to update their portraits. Another Benefit to Mini Sessions is the price tag. I am able to split the expense with several clients, making them more affordable for my clients. So, in conclusion, you can create your own Full Session or you can book a Mini Session to capture those memories. It's up to you! If you cannot make the Limited Mini Session of your dreams, don't worry, you can always book a full session with the same theme!
